A year of building with AI in the open. Local model surgery, agentic tooling, frontier model evals, and the things nobody else is saying out loud.
Ace Step XL Turbo, generated locally on a single gaming PC. Music AI that needed a closed-source supercluster eighteen months ago now runs in the time it takes to refill coffee. The gap is closing weekly.
Tested every optimization the internet recommends. SageAttention v2, TeaCache, torch.compile, GGUF quantization. The win came from MagCache, a NeurIPS 2025 paper. Wan 2.2 14B dropped from 75 minutes to 1:26. Two used 3090s. No cloud.
I've been making my own AI video shorts and posting them. The tools crossed the line from "interesting demo" to "I'd watch this for fun" sometime in the last year. If you've got the vision, you've got the way.
youtube.com/@leanthatdesignFirst pass nuked the model's reasoning entirely. Coherent answers in, pure nonsense out. Iterated until the parameter sweet spot held. Next: Claude Code and Codex CLI running fully on private, air-gapped hardware. No cloud, no leaks.
Old PC game, no SDK, no docs. Described the rendering pipeline to a few models and patched the draw calls to offset the camera per eye. Stereoscopic 3D in a game that never supported it.
Reading screenshots, navigating menus, picking party members, running combat. Latency rules out action games. Turn-based RPGs are a perfect fit. Proof these models can perceive, reason, and act inside complex visual environments.
ClaudePlaysPokemon: Opus 4.6 hit Victory Road in 30,600 steps vs 4.5's 206,000 (85% fewer). Safari Zone solved in 13 attempts vs 41. Mansion cleared in 3,000. Long-horizon planning is still hard. The curve is steep.
Pointed ChatGPT's agent at a retro handheld over ADB and said "set this up." It pushed commands, configured settings, installed packages, and pulled cheat sheets for the games. Don't run it on anything you can't afford to burn.
Tried Claude Computer Control for 3D dev workflows where Claude Code falls short. The pitch is right: bypass MCP/tool setup, just let it see and click. The execution still can't handle the tasks that justify the approach. Watching closely.
Same model, same prompts. Wildly different agentic output between Ubuntu and Windows. WSL2 closes most of the gap. The 70% of desktops running native Windows are forming the public's opinion of AI from the worst version of it.
Apple Intelligence called a lop-eared rabbit a Persian cat. ChatGPT 5.2 got it instantly. Same photo, two very different intelligences. The model behind the brand determines the outcome. There are hundreds, and they are not equal.
Coding used to alternate hard problems with familiar patterns. AI compresses the familiar away. Every task is novel; cognitive load rises faster than output does. That's how you quietly burn out your best engineers.

It’s rare that you come across a standout like Noel. Ridiculously efficient is the phrase that comes to mind when I think of Noel. Noel expertly filled the role of a proactive developer who took initiative to solve problems when product requirements were either lackluster or insufficient. I was particular impressed by Noel’s ability to handle even the toughest assignments under stressful deadlines. Noel would be an asset to any team.
Impressed with Noel's technical breadth and depth. He not only is able to speak to current advancements and trends across the full stack, he speaks from real skill development and implementation. Fast learner and exudes directed curiosity.
Though I've only worked for a short time with Noel, and our work overlapped only occasionally, it's impossible not to offer an enthusiastic recommendation of him and the work he does. Noel is a deeply focused and curious engineer, always intent on unearthing the right solution for a problem, not simply a solution that'll "work for now". He's thoughtful about his recommendations, and very good at educating his team members about the process that led him to those recommendations. There's a short hop from his suggesting a solution and his having built and tested that solution. I trust his work because a great deal of care goes into it, and it's been a real pleasure working together. I'm going to miss him, but I can't wait to see what he does next.
Noel was a force to be reckoned with…in a good way. He is extremely well organized, thoughtful, and very dedicated to his craft. I found working with Noel to be a pleasure because he never held back his thoughts and could always back them up with well-reasoned arguments. As a group, we thrived because of Noel’s talents, and i would cherish an opportunity to have him on my team again.
It was a pleasure to work with Noel to build products for our customers. His ability to bridge the gap between technical and practical knowledge and business needs was extremely helpful to me as a product manager. I would be excited to work with Noel again in the future..
Noel is a great guy to have on your team. We both worked on some technical projects involving Django and Vue and he had a lot of awesome insights. Would love to work with Noel again and I can't wait to see what he gets up to next.
The purpose of this note is to formally endorse Noel Victor as a senior software engineer. I have worked with Noel at Wharton for four years and in short, he has done an amazing job. At Wharton we together on WRDS (Wharton Research & Data Services). WRDS is an award-winning financial research platform, used at top schools throughout the world. At WRDS Noel is responsible for both designing and developing functional applications, based on business requirements, for use on our platform. Some highlights include being the technical lead for our platform's latest research tool. Noel was able to develop a full-text analysis platform, which helps researchers do their job. I've had the pleasure of working with Noel for over three years now. We are both part of the Advanced Initiatives Team at Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS). During this time I have seen Noel take on new high profile initiatives, as well as inherit a range of ongoing projects. As the Senior Software Engineer, Noel is responsible for designing, developing, reporting on, and maintaining a series of interactive web applications that are currently being used in business colleges across the globe. These classroom tools cover a wide range of topics (finance, accounting, macroeconomics, text analysis) and are designed to be either used as classroom demonstrations by professors, or as independent learning experiences by students. Besides the ongoing work on these classroom tools, Noel continues to design and develop new applications for our customers. For example, for professionals doing research in finance, he created a Text Analysis platform that can be used with multiple corpora (e.g., LexisNexis, Capital IQ transcripts) as well as customizable Natural Language Processing (NLP) pipelines. In this and other projects he demonstrates a powerful understanding of how to convey data graphically. Noel has the gift of being able to multi-task in a time-sensitive environment, adapt quickly to new requirements, meet deadlines, prioritize appropriately, and creatively approach tough problems. His enthusiasm is contagious, and sometimes we strive to keep up with him. He is curious, continuously researching; he regularly shares what he has learned, ranging from innovative techniques to new technologies. For example, he spearheaded the effort to start building some of our classroom tools as Jupyter Notebooks. This has since become an important new initiative. Most importantly, Noel is fun to work with. He has excellent communication skills and a strong sense of pride in what he creates.
